The backdrop of Betrayal at House on the Hill is an old deserted house that is rumored to have strange happenings. That house is avoided by one and all. A strange twist of fate makes a whole busload of people take shelter in the house. The front door bangs shut and stays that way. And then bizarre events start unfolding inside the house. Vampires, werewolves, flesh eating plants, weird creatures ready to prey on humans, cloaked alien hover crafts…and many more specters. All plotting a conquest over humans.

The traitor can win the game by either ‘killing’ the good guys or by some other means that the scenario provides. And, the good guys can go on to win the game by successfully planning and plotting to stop the destructive forces, aided by a little luck.
