Each player gets 45 trains to play with. The publishers have
thoughtfully provided three extra trains per color for replacements.
The goal of a game of Ticket to Ride Europe is to occupy train routes
between various destination cities in Europe. A game of Ticket to Ride
Europe takes players to about 45 cities all over Europe, Russia and the
Middle East. Most cities have 4-5 routes, giving players a lot of choice
of approach. A few special routes use ferries and tunnels. Ferries take
players across water and tunnels take them through mountains.
At each turn a player has four options to choose from. He can draw train
cards, claim a route, draw destination cards or place a station.
When players want to claim a route they need to lay down the required
number of cards of the appropriate number. A maximum of eight cards are
needed for a route. Wild cards known as locomotives can be used as a
substitute for any color.
The end of a game is reached when a player finishes a turn holding two
or less trains. When this happens everyone gets one last turn and then
points are totaled to decide the winner.
The rule book gives specific instructions regarding game play when more
than two players are involved. A few changes in the two player rules are
needed to keep the game interesting.
Players of Ticket to Ride Europe visit the craggy hillsides of
Edinburgh, the sunlit docks of Constantinople, the dusty alleys of
Pamplona, dark tunnels of Switzerland, and travel in a ferry on the
Black Sea among other things. A game of Ticket to Ride Europe takes
players on a good holiday away from reality for an hour or two. Players
come out of Ticket to Ride Europe refreshed after having tried their
hands at establishing rail empires all across Europe.
